Howdy Y’all,
Ok, I know in my last post I said I wasn’t going to be yakking about a bunch of boring stuff that nobody cares about. Well this post might seem a little boring, but as a home inspector, it’s my job to look out for you. So that’s what I’m going to be dishin’ up today!
I love Cuban Coffee. My wife makes the best Cuban Coffee in all of North Carolina. I am 100% addicted to her (and her coffee). You know what happens when I leave the house in the morning without her Cuban Coffee? DISASTER! Without her coffee I am the longest, slowest train wreck the world has ever seen. I feel about her Cuban Coffee the same way I feel about Home Inspections. They are REALLY, REALLY important.
A lot of folks think of a home inspection as just another thing on the long checklist of items that need to get done before closing on their house. They get on the Googler, type in “Charlotte Home Inspector”, and Bam! They have 100 different inspectors to choose from. They call one or two of them, pick the inspector that’s available the soonest and the rest is history. This is fine and dandy, but as a Home Inspector, I love it when my clients are a little more engaged in the process.
As a Home Inspector, I understand how important my job is in keeping families safe. If I do my job right, I might find faulty wiring in a panel box and prevent a fire that could kill a family. If I do my job right, I might be able to find a defective gas pack that’s exhausting Carbon Monoxide right outside a child’s bedroom window. If I do my job right, I might be able to save lives. This is really important to me and I know if homeowners knew what I knew, it would be equally as important to them.
So I love it when homebuyers want to tag along during my inspection. I find it’s a great time to not only identify costly defects that will save my clients money, but also a great time to educate them on the all the different components of their future home. My job as a home inspector is two-fold. First, I want to protect families from the financial pitfalls associated in buying a home with problems they didn’t know about. Secondly, and most importantly, I want to protect families from the physical dangers that can be found in a home. I’m passionate about my job because I know that if I do it right, I have a much better chance of making a positive difference in my client’s lives… And for me, that’s far more satisfying than my wife’s Cuban Coffee.
Be Happy and Be Kind,
T.J. Thorne
